Start with the basics
An everyday cosmetic routine can be short: gentle cleansing, suitable moisturizing and separate sun protection during the day. The AAD notes that using many products together can irritate skin.
When choosing a cream, consider whether your skin feels dry by the end of the day or whether you want a different texture. Intended use and your experience matter more than the number of products on a bathroom shelf.
A morning sequence
After cleansing, apply your chosen serum if you use one. Follow with day cream and separate sunscreen. Dr. MUD’s day-cream names identify versions intended for normal-to-oily and normal-to-dry skin.
The serum manufacturer specifies clean, dry skin. That product instruction takes precedence over a general recommendation to put every step onto a damp face. Read the directions for the particular product.
- Cleanse gently and dry as required by the product directions.
- Apply a small amount of serum if included in your routine.
- Use your day cream.
- Finish daytime care with a separate sunscreen.
An evening routine without excess layers
In the evening, cleanse away the day’s dirt and cosmetic residue. If you use serum, it can go before night cream. Apply eye and neck cream only to its intended areas, keeping it out of the eyes.
Dr. MUD’s night cream is left on the skin. It is not a mask to be kept on for a few minutes and washed away. If your existing moisturizer already works for you, add another step only for a reason you can identify.
Where a mud mask fits
A facial mud mask is a separate rinse-off step after cleansing. Remove it before continuing with moisturizing care. It should not stay on overnight underneath or alongside leave-on serum and cream.

Choose your first addition
If daily moisture is the missing step, start with a cream. If you already have a moisturizer and want a gel-textured addition, compare the serum and its declaration. Choose a mask when you want an occasional rinse-off ritual.
